Particle Technology Labs Expanding to Provide More Technology in Porous Materials and Powder Testing
Particle Technology Labs is pleased to announce the latest expansion of our laboratory space. Over the more than 25 years since our inception, PTL has grown from a one-person operation to more than 12,500 square feet, giving us the ability to increase our already comprehensive particle size and characterization services footprint.
Our latest expansion not only introduces more laboratory space, but also more instrumentation, including brand-new instruments in porous material and powder testing capabilities from Anton Paar. The recently acquired instrumentation includes the Autosorb iQ, NOVAtouch LX4, Porometer 3G zh and an Ultrapyc 5000. This suite of instrumentation diversifies our already existing capabilities for physisorption, chemisorption, vapor sorption, solid density analysis, and pore size analyses at PTL.
Among the new instrumentation, the Anton Paar Porometer 3G zh offers novel testing capabilities for capillary flow porometry (also known as liquid expulsion testing). This technique measures through-pore size characteristics, bubble point, air permeability, and liquid permeability of a wide range of materials. Through-pores are pores that start at one end of the sample surface and empty out on the opposite end, which are especially critical for membranes and filtration media, including hollow fibers, ceramics, paper, synthetic polymers, cotton and more. The instrument model can probe pores ranging in sizes from <0.02 to 500 µm. As such, this instrument uniquely complements PTL’s existing capabilities for characterizing open pores (any pores with opening to the sample’s surface) by gas physisorption and mercury porosimetry techniques.
The Autosorb iQ diversifies PTL’s capabilities for advanced applications in gas physisorption, including micropore size distribution analysis, as well as chemisorption and vapor sorption studies. Moreover, the CryoSync accessory will expand PTL’s capability for conducting heat of adsorption studies by generating isotherms at multiple, precisely controlled temperatures within a wide range between 82 K to 115 K.
Other new instrumentation includes the NOVAtouch vacuum volumetric gas sorption analyzer, and the Ultrapyc 5000 gas pycnometer. Gas physisorption and pycnometry are not new technologies to PTL, but these new instruments offer a choice of manufacturers adding to the selection available to our clients.
