Petrochemical, Oil, and Gas

Manufacturers in the petrochemical industry trust Particle Technology Labs for particle size and characterization analysis of many materials including gasoline, oil, lubricants, distillates, alternative fuels, and many others.

Applications

Eliminating Unwanted Particulate – particulate in oil from natural wear on moving parts can result in reduced oil effectiveness and part failure. If the size and shape of the wear particles is determined, filtration equipment can be engineered to remove the contamination to increase oil and product life. Images from a scanning electron microscope can demonstrate contaminant particles, allowing engineers to determine the source of contamination or wearing parts before failure occurs.

Catalysts – catalysts are used in the oil and gas industry to either remove harmful emissions or capture desirable components from petroleum through refining. By determining the surface area, pore size distribution, and particle size of catalysts, researchers can determine its effectiveness and if a catalyst needs to be replenished.
